Thai Immigration – Bangkok

Embassy of Thailand

Immigration procedures are not consistent for all the provinces across Thailand. Each immigration office will implement government policies in their own way which creates varying applications processes among the different cities and provinces. Thai immigration requires that foreigners do the process their visa in the city where their address of residence is located.

If you are living in Bangkok and you wish to apply for a visa extension based on marriage, retirement, business or other categories, then you will need to go to any of the immigration offices in Bangkok (see table below for information on the addresses).

You may also contact our firm for assistance with your immigration and visa concerns. We offer a wide array of Thai immigration services in addition to other legal matters such as family law, property purchases, and litigation.

  1. Hello!
I’d like to know that as mentioned STV document requirements,Is the form called TM30 address notifications essential one for visa extension?Instead of it,Can I submit the proof of payment for leasing an legally apartment?

    1. Dear May Phyo.
      Good day.
TM.30 is one of the required document in order to extend your visa in Thailand. You cannot submit proof of payment of lease in exchange of such. It is mandatory you do the TM.30 before you extend your visa, otherwise the immigration will not approve your extension.
      Thank you.

  2. i’m on special tourist visa but i have a company opened in thailand recently under my name. can i change the STV to NON B visa without leaving thailand?

    1. Dear Sophie,
      Good day.
STV cannot be changed to a Non-Immigrant B visa inside Thailand. You must exit Thailand first and apply for the Non-B visa at the Thai Embassy abroad.
      Thank you.

  3. I came here with a tourist visa last year, and with closure of border I always get extension of visa here. I am legally married to my Thai wife in my country but not in Thailand. I have 2 children here. I’m less than 50 years.
    Two Questions:
    1. Can I can change my tourist visa to a Non Immigrant O? I don’t have the 400,000 Baht per requirement cause since unable to work here , I used the money to support here.
    2. Can I change to a Non Immigrant B visa without leaving Thailand if I have a company willing to hire me ?

    1. Dear Ritchie,
      Good day.
      1. No, you cannot change to a Non-O visa if you do not have 400,000 THB in a Thai bank account.
      2. No, right now, to change to a Non-B visa, you must apply from the Thai Embassy abroad and return to Thailand.
      Thank you.

  5. Hi there,
I’ve arrived in Thailand with my family. We’re happy and would like to explore Bangkok and the country. Is it possible to change our TR visa to an STV? Thank you!

    1. Dear Mark,
      Good day.
Can not, STV can only be issued by THAI EMBASSIES OR CONSULATES in your country, You can still extend your tourist visa for 30 days at the Immigration office near you.
      Thank you.

  6. Hello,
My daughter is only 14 months old. She doesn’t yet have a passport. Do babies/toddlers need a passport to travel to Thailand (BKK)? Or can she arrive as a dependent on my passport? Many thanks!

    1. Hi Mark,

Yes, she needs a passport to enter Thailand if your country can issue passport to infants. If your country does not issue passport, you may ask your passport issuer to add her name in your passport and then both you and your child needs a visa and COE to enter Thailand. You need two visas and two COEs.

  7. Good morning,I’ m italian in Bangkok with a tourist 60+30 days visa; i may found the opportunity for a job as waiter in hotel and i was wondering if is possible change my visa in working visa without leaving the country. Also i was wondering how is regulamentation if instead of a regular job i will do an unpaid internship. Do i still need a working visa or i can do the unpaid internship in hotel even with my current turist visa?
    Thank you

    1. Hi Danilo,

Yes, you need a work permit for both unpaid or paid internship. Students who are holding a non-immigrant ED visa do not need a work permit to do internship in Thailand. If you currently have a tourist visa and extension, you may be able to change to a non-immigrant O visa as long as your employer in Thailand is eligible to getting the Non immigrant B visa inside Thailand. The company must have the required income and paid taxes. Otherwise, you may be required to return to Italy and apply for the non immigrant B visa at the Thai embassy in Rome.
