    1. You may apply for an extension of up to 30 days at any immigration office. If you need to stay longer, then your option is to do border run to any neighboring country of Thailand.

  2. Hi, I am currently in Bangkok on a visa on arrival for 15 days. Will I be able to change my visa at the Immigration office in Bangkok from a visa on arrival to a tourist visa? Or do I have to leave the country to renew my visa?

    1. The tourist visa cannot be obtained inside Thailand and, therefore, you will need to go to the Thai Embassy or Consulate in another country if you wish to apply for one.

  3. Hi, I’m a citizen of Denmark who has a Departure Card, dated January 7th, stapled into my passport. I assume I’m here on a Tourist Visa Exemption. I never applied for anything.

A stamp in my passport says that I’m admitted here until February 5th, 2016. I could leave before that, but, as I love it here, I’m considering extending my stay in this beautiful country until February 12th – and perhaps even a few days more than that. But definitely no more than 45 days in total.

Is there anything I need to do if I want to stay in beautiful Thailand for more than 30 days?

How and where do I do it? What does it cost? Is it difficult? And what happens if I don’t?

    Thank you

    1. You may apply for an extension to your stay at any immigration office in Thailand.

  10. Hi, my husband holds a British passport. He had a 30 visa upon arrival at Suvarnabhumi Airport. So far, he has extended to another 30 ddays. We wish to go to Chiang Mai… Will he be able to extend again for 30 days?

If not, what is your best advice? Do we do a Visa Run? Or fly to a nearby country?

  11. Hi there. I am from South Africa. My double entry tourist visa expires at the end of January. So I can get a 30 day extension. But If I want to stay longer than that, do I need to leave Thailand and come back? And each time I leave I get 30 days? How many times can I do this? I am teaching but I wont be teaching for the next couple of months so I just want to find out how long I can stay…

    1. Citizens of South Africa are permitted to stay in Thailand for 30 days if entering via international airport and 15 days if via land border checkpoint. The number of times that you can actually do visa run is not definite and can only be determined by the Thai immigration officer. Please note that the visa exempt stamp given at the airport is issued only to those who are travelling to Thailand for tourism purpose. When you get back into your teaching job, you will need to apply for a non-immigrant B visa to stay legally in Thailand.

  13. Good day

I am a South African currently staying in Thailand on a tourist visa.

As a South African I get a standard 30 day visa and I applied for another 30 days.

I would like to enquire if it is possible to future extend my visa by a few more days over and above the 60 days I already have? Is there a new law where I can extend my stay for another 15 days?

    Kind regards,
    Tamryn
