  1. Hi there,

I am Malaysian and will be travelling to Bangkok on the 17th feb 2016 and returning back to kuala lumpur on the 22nd feb 2016. My passport is due on the 21st August 2016. Please advise as i am so confuse with the 6 months validity. Thank You.

    1. The requirement for passport validity is 6 months from the date of your travel to Thailand.

  2. I’m a Norweigan citizen, I’m in Thailand now and wish to apply for a multiple entry tourist visa for my next trips to Thailand. Can I apply for this visa in the immigration on jomtien soi 5 office?

    1. No, you cannot apply for tourist visa inside Thailand. Multiple entry tourist visa can only be obtained from the applicant’s home country.

  3. Me and my boyfriend will need to get a visa extension in thailand as we will be staying a couple of weeks longer. We don’t have any flights booked out of thailand as we are travelling overland through to Malaysia. Will we be able to get an extension still if we go to the embassy?

    1. Yes, you should be able to get an extension at the immigration office. The length of the extension that will be issued to you will depend on your visa.

  4. Hello I’m a UK citizen. I entered Thailand on the 8th of December and received a 30-day pass after those 30 days were up I went to the immigration office and paid for an extra 30 days. It runs out on the 4th of this month in two days is there any way I can extend my stay at all?

    1. No. Application for an extension to stay is only permitted once, and after that you will need to leave the country and come back to Thailand to get another 30 days. Another option is to apply for a tourist visa from another country if you wish to stay longer than 60 days.

  5. My son has a 60 day tourist visa but yesterday when he arrived in Thailand they only stamped his passport for a 30 days stay, he is staying 37 days!

Taking into consideration the cost (B1900) and hassle of extending it for 7 days (it will probably take up a good chunk of his time in Bangkok to sort out) can he just pay the 500 per day overstay fine on departure?

Seems so unfair when he’s already paid for and done the right thing by getting the 60 day visa in advance??

    Thanks
    Lottie

    1. Overstaying is never a good idea as it might impact your son’s ability to travel back to Thailand. As a suggestion, it’s better to just apply for an extension at the immigration office which would actually be cheaper than the cost of 7 days worth of overstay fine.

As for the tourist visa of your son, it seems like it was overlooked by the immigration officer which can be really frustrating for both you and your son. Perhaps your son can check with the immigration office, before he applies for the extension, just to verify and see if there’s something that they can do to correct the error.

  6. I have applied for a new passport. My current visa is for 30 days and is due to run out and my new passport has not arrived. I can not travel on my damaged passport and was told by immigration I can not get another extension without leaving the country. How do I get a visa extension without a valid passport?

    1. Please check with your embassy on how they can help you in this situation. They should be assisting you in making sure that you will not overstay in Thailand.

  7. Hello,

I am an Australian citizen. I crossed the border into Thailand by bus and received a 15 day visa. Can I extend this for 7 days? If so how much does it cost? Where can I get it processed?

    Thank you in advance

    1. Yes, you may apply for an extension at the nearest immigration office. The visa extension fee is THB 1,900.

  8. I am from the USA and arrived in Thailand on November 7, 2015 on a Tourist Visa. After 60 days had lapsed I went to the Immigration Office and extended my Tourist Visa for 30 days. I went again to the Immigration Office on January 28th and was told I am unable to extend my visa for another 30 days. I was told that I have to leave the country and re-enter to get another additional 30 days. Is this true? I read that I can extend my Visa twice before having to leave the country to get a re-entry visa, which allows me to stay for another 30 days.

I am confused and read this exact information on the US Embassy of Thailand Website.

    1. You can only extend your visa once and after that you will have to exit the country and come back to get another stamp if you wish to stay in Thailand for an extended period.

  9. Hi, I have 60-day visa and in Khon Kean. Flights have changed and will be over by 1 day. What’s the best way to extend for this single day?

  10. Hi,

I am English and my 60-day visa is going to run out on the 5th February. I am staying in Koh Chang. I was going to get an extension at Trat immigration but have decided to go to Malaysia to watch some bike racing and then go to Penang. I’m going to apply for a 60-day tourist visa at Penang consulate. I’m trying to book flights back into Thailand but not sure what dates because of visa processing time.

Do you know how long it takes for a 60-day tourist visa to process in Penang – Malaysia?

    Thank you!

    1. Processing of tourist visa by most Thai Embassies takes about 2 days. It’s best if you can contact them directly to verify your concern.

  11. Hello, I have double citizenship (Argentinian and Italian). I am in Cambodia at the moment and I have entered with my Italian passport. I would like to know if I can change the passport in the land border and enter in Thailand with the Argentinian since that will allow to me to stay 3 months visa free in your country. Italians only have one month.
If is not possible, can I obtained a tourist visa for another 30 days with the Italian passport? Thank you very much in advance
    Best regards
    Ana

    1. It’s best if you enter Thailand via air travel to make sure that you’ll be issued with the 3 months entry stamp. When you leave Cambodia, you’ll need to show your Italian passport so they can put the exit stamp on it. Then you can show your Argentinian passport to the immigration office at the airport in Thailand when you enter the country.

I arrived in Thailand by land on the 21st of January on an Irish passport. I only got a 15 day visa. I would like to extend it for 60 days is this possible?

Is it still allowed to enter and use it to travel to Thailand? But his passport gonna expire on 2017. And he also need to apply a visa anyways. Thanks alot.

I have 7 days left on my 60 days entry visa. How can I extend for another 60 days? I have a Iraqi passport. Many thanks

  17. I entered Thailand originally on a 60 day single-entry tourist visa. That expires on January 28th. My goal is to stay in Thailand till the end of March, so roughly another 60 days. Im an American living in Phayao with my girlfriend who is an English teacher. What is my best option for extending my visa?

    1. You may apply for a 30 days extension to your stay at the nearest immigration office in your area. Then on or before the expiration of your visa extension, you can do a border run to a neighboring country of Thailand to be permitted for another 30 days stay inside the country.
