Every year, the Kingdom of Thailand has been continuously attracting millions of international tourists from all across the globe, making the Thai tourist visa a high demand in many countries. Thai tourist visa is issued to those who wish to enter Thailand for tourism purposes. This type of visa can be valid for either 3 or 6 months and visa holders are permitted to stay in the country, upon arrival, a period of not exceeding 60 days.

Furthermore, those who wish to extend their stay may file for an application for a 30-day extension at any immigration offices in Thailand. Visa extension fee is priced at THB1,900.

Tourist Visa Requirements

  • Passport or travel document with validity period of at least 6 months following the intended date of departure
  • Visa application form
  • Recent photograph (4 x 6cm)
  • Round trip flight tickets
  • Sufficient travel finances (at least 20,000 baht per person and 40,000 baht per family)

    1. He will need to apply for a visa from the Thai embassy or consulate outside of Thailand if he currently does not have a visa issued by these offices.

    1. Once you apply for an extension, it will be from the end of your current stamp (October 5th) onwards.

  5. I’ve had 2 tourist visas, just extended the 30 days taking me up to the 12th of October but I’m traveling back from a holiday. I will be in Phuket and can get to immigration there. Will they give me 7 days? I will have time to get back to Bangkok then exit the country.

    1. You can only extend your visa once. If you need more time, you can apply for a tourist visa outside of Thailand or exit and re-enter on visa exemption depending on your nationality.

    I am an Australian. I will be in Thailand later in the year for 80 days. Do I get the single entry 60 day visa then extend for 30 days at my local immigration office or border run for a 30 day exemption visa? Or should I apply for the multiple entry 60 day visa extend/border run with that visa? Plan on being in Thailand the whole time.

    1. You can apply for a 60-day tourist visa from the Thai embassy or consulate near your location in Thailand and then apply for a 30-day extension at an immigration office once you arrive.

    1. If your visa has already expired, you can no longer apply for an extension. Please note that an overstay fee will be charged at 500THB/day that you overstay your current visa.

    I have a 60 day visa which I plan to extend for another 30 days on the 23rd of this month. However my flight home to UK is the 30th October and that visa will have expired. Will I be able to get a 7 day extension? I’m very confused on visas and things…thank you in advance!

    1. You can only apply for a visa extension once. If you need to stay in Thailand longer, you can exit via any border and enter on a visa exemption stamp for 30 days.​

    1. You can apply for the extension of your 30-day stamp at an immigration office in Chiang Mai in person. You do not need to go to Bangkok.

    1. Yes, Indian passport holders are only allowed to extend their stay for a maximum of 7 days. If you want to stay longer, you need to apply for another visa.

  14. I am visiting Thailand on the 22nd of November from England. My trip is supposed to be for 63 days with a potential week long trip to Cambodia in mid December. Is it possible to apply for my 30-day visa on arrival, then apply for another one when returning to Bangkok? I will then need to apply for an extension of 7 days before returning home on the 26th of January. Will I need to visit the immigration office in Bangkok?

    1. It is true. It is too early to file for an extension. You must do it on the last 2 weeks of your current entry stamp.

  20. I am in the process of obtaining a non immigrant b visa as well as getting a teacher licence dolled by a work permit and visa extension for one year.

    My family, i.e my wife and 3 small children have tourist visas which need to be extended by one month and then converted to a visa which entitles them to stay here with me whilst I am working. Their current visas expire on Sept 30 2016.

    How do I extend their visas to allow my family to be with me whilst I am working as a teacher in Thailand? My employers do not seem to understand what the process is and appear not have the right information regarding the process of extension of visas.

    What is the best option for extending the visas of my family? They all hold Filipino passports. I hold a South African passport.

    1. The consulate will issue a tourist visa which you must utilize within 90 days from date of issue. At the airport, the immigration officer will give you a stamp that will allow you to stay for 30 days or for 60 days maximum.
